Hi guys, welcome to Day 9 of the weight loss series. I hope you have been practicing all the previous asanas and the previous sequencing. So yesterday we saw the power yoga sequence, and today is going to be another power yoga sequence but with a little balancing asana added to it.
Why? Because it's always good to push ourselves, and it's also very good for the body and mind — it helps you actually to concentrate a lot more. I hope you have done your warm-ups and your breathing exercises, and I hope you are ready.
We are going to begin this sequence with the Vrikshasana, which is the tree pose. We saw it earlier — it's very simple. You place your foot on your thigh, or you can also keep it this way, whichever one you are comfortable with.
All right, now if you are ready to begin, take a deep breath and place yourself properly. Get into the Vrikshasana with your right foot on your left thigh, and now you take that right foot and shift your body weight and move into the Virabhadrasana.
Stay in this Virabhadrasana for at least four counts, and then cartwheel back with your left hand, stretching all the way back for another four counts, and slowly move into the plank. Now we are going to keep shifting between the downward dog and the plank — try to do it as much as possible. I would start with about four or five counts.
Now when it comes to the breathing, you inhale and you do the downward dog, and you exhale and you do the plank, and every time you move into the downward dog, try to just push yourself back as much as possible and concentrate on your core, and keep doing this on a loop. You can start with four and move on to eight counts, and you bring your left foot forward and again gracefully move into the Virabhadrasana, stay for four counts, cartwheel back and stretch as much as possible.
You inhale and take this little time for you to relax, and move your entire body weight onto your left side and bring your right leg back onto your thigh and do the Vrikshasana. Doing this balancing pose in between really helps you focus completely on the sequence. Again you bring the right leg back, move into the Virabhadrasana and you stretch backwards, four counts each. Prepare yourself, focus on the next asana we are going to move on to, which is the plank, and we do the downward dog and plank sequence again.
When you are doing this, try to focus completely on your abdomen and your ab muscles. As you inhale you pull your stomach in, push yourself back, and exhale and relax — try not to concentrate on your arms but on your stomach. You do this as much as possible, and like I said, every downward dog you do, try to push yourself back and focus completely on your belly, and now we are going to bring our right foot forward, slowly and gracefully move into the Virabhadrasana.
Take your time with the asanas, properly take four counts, and of course you cartwheel back and stretch as much as possible, prepare yourself to do the Vrikshasana. You are going to take your left foot now and rest it on your right thigh, take your time and stay in Vrikshasana. Use this little time to breathe deeply and again gain your strength, gain your focus — you could keep doing this on loop with both the legs. Look, it is very, very simple, I am sure you can do it.
Well guys, that must have been a little hard for a few, but for some of you it must have been very challenging and interesting. I personally like to add in a little bit of balancing as well in my sequences because it really helps me concentrate. The last video is tomorrow — until then stay positive, stay healthy and keep clean. Bye bye.
