Ishwarya
Ashtanga
I'm Ishwarya, an Ashtanga yoga teacher based in Chennai. I'm internationally certified with over 500 hours of teaching experience, trained in the Bharath Shetty lineage, and I've been teaching full-time since January 2025. My own practice started well before that, at the age of 14 when I trained as an athlete and practiced yoga to complement my training. I still train under my own teacher — I don't think you stop being a student just because you start teaching.
My classes are built around Ashtanga yoga, taught through the lens of anatomy, so the practice is built around your body. I'm not interested in yoga as a cure for anything, and I don't teach it alongside weight loss or medical claims. What I care about is capability: most people who walk in underestimate what their body can actually do, and the practice exists to correct that, one pose at a time.
I run live classes both online and in person from my studio in Virugambakam, Chennai, working with students from absolute beginner through intermediate asana practice. I also work with corporate teams on wellness sessions, and I'm currently building a structured, self-paced program for practitioners who've plateaued and want to build a sustainable and holistic practice.
I'm here to guide you deeper into your practice — to help you see just how capable you can be on the mat. That's the work: not adding something new, but uncovering more of what's already there.
