India’s Yoga Legacy for Modern Life

← JourneyDay 1 of 5

Day 1 · Beginner journey

The Breath

The series opens with the breath and a simple invitation: observe. Rohini introduces the idea that how we meet a difficult pose on the mat mirrors how we meet difficulty in life. Today is about arriving, breathing, and noticing your body and mind without judgement.

Find a comfortable seat and let the breath settle. Rohini frames the whole series here: yoga is more than exercise — given the chance, it becomes a mirror for how we relate to ourselves. As you breathe, simply observe how your body and mind feel today and what your first reactions are.

Follow the breath-led practice without trying to get anywhere. The aim of Day 1 is to arrive, notice, and set the reflective tone for the days that follow.

Today’s practice

  • Settle into a comfortable seat and follow the breath
  • Notice your body and mind without judgement
  • Watch your first reactions to difficulty on the mat
  • Carry that noticing into the rest of the series

Reflection

When something felt hard today, what was your first reaction — and does it echo how you meet difficulty off the mat?
