Beginners do well with 2–4 short sessions a week to start, building toward most days as it becomes a habit. Even 10–15 minutes daily is more valuable than one long weekly class. Consistency matters far more than length or intensity — a little, often, is the key.

As a beginner, aim for two to four short sessions a week to start, then build toward most days once it becomes a habit. This range gives you enough repetition to build strength and flexibility while leaving time for your muscles to adapt, and it is realistic enough that you will actually keep it up. Consistency matters far more than length or intensity.

When you are new to yoga, the temptation is to do a lot occasionally, perhaps one long, ambitious class and then nothing for a week. But the body and mind respond much better to little and often. Two to four sessions of twenty to thirty minutes spread through the week lets each practice reinforce the last, so movements start to feel familiar and your range steadily improves.

As yoga settles into your routine, a short daily practice of even ten to fifteen minutes is an excellent goal. A brief daily session is more valuable than one long weekly class because gentle, regular input is what gradually rewires habits of posture, breathing and calm. You do not need to lengthen sessions to progress; frequency does most of the work.

The common early mistake is going too hard, too soon, then feeling sore or discouraged and stopping altogether. Give your body recovery by varying what you do: mix stronger sessions with gentle stretching or breathing days. And keep sessions short enough that starting never feels like a chore, since the practice you begin is the one that helps you.

As a practical takeaway, pick a fixed slot, tie it to an existing habit such as after waking, and start with just fifteen minutes a few times a week. If you have an injury, health condition or are pregnant, check with a qualified teacher or your doctor about suitable practices, and never push through sharp pain.
